Highway 1 Update

highway 1 Closure Travel Updates

Highway 1 is open to Ragged Point from all points south! So if you are driving through Cambria to reach us, it should be smooth sailing. There is a hard closure two miles north of Lucia—no bike or pedestrian access to the north.

This means you can stay the night at Ragged Point, hike Salmon Creek Falls, Buckeye, or Soda Springs in the morning, visit Gorda for lunch, and even visit the New Camaldoli Hermitage in the afternoon. Access is also available to the camping areas at Plaskett Creek and Kirk Creek (reservations required),

If you are driving from the north, unfortunately, it’s a different story. Highway 1 is still closed just south of Esalen due to a landslide, and you cannot reach us by driving straight through from Big Sur at this time. You will need to return to Highway 101, drive south, and cut back to the coast across on Highway 46 West.

When planning your visit, the best strategy is to go to the CalTrans website at https://roads.dot.ca.gov/ to check road conditions. If in doubt, call our front desk at 805-927-4502 or 888-584-6374.

We can’t wait to see you!
